When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.

Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together...or in love.

Review: 5 out of 5 stars

This book is Adult Contemporary Romance - Please be advised that this book is NOT YA friendly, not even in a New Adult category.

I absolutely loved the first book in J. Lynn (AKA Jennifer L. Armentrout’s) Gamble Brothers series so when the opportunity arose through Entangled Publishing to read and review the sequel, Tempting the Player and Chad’s story – I jumped at the chance.

Bridget Rodgers works for Maddie (from Tempting the Best Man) so is all too aware of her boyfriend Chase’s brother, Chad Gamble who is an all-star pitcher for the Nationals. Bridget isn’t the most confident person, not super model thin and is quite flamboyant with her dress so is surprised by the interest he pays to her at a club she attends with a friend.

Chad is notorious for his off-field antics and partying ways despite half of the rumors being untrue but is intrigued by Bridget and pursues her. Their first night together was quite interesting, she was left embarrassed, him peeved and me giggling; their follow-up ‘by accident’ meeting was just as entertaining but also ended up with them both in the tabloids.

When Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum to either clean up his act or say goodbye to his multi-million dollar contract, an interfering, overbearing publicist – Miss Gore is hired to mend his reputation and does it by bribing Bridget to be Chad’s ‘fake girlfriend’.

Chad honestly makes this book! He is charming, super hot, sweet, cocky and has the biggest ego that works so well for him. The interactions and banter between him and all of the other characters from his siblings, to Miss Gore and Bridget had me giggling; I adored him.

Everything in this book worked well for me, the likeable characters, the engaging storyline, the plot, and the scorching hot and smexy off the charts chemistry and steamy scenes! All written perfectly.

I have enjoyed everything I have read by JLA/J. Lynn to date, her writing style keeps me mesmerized and the stories she weaves are always engaging and her characters amazing.

Overall, If you like a fully developed story, a sweet romance with plenty of hot, steamy scenes then I would definitely recommend you read the Gamble Brothers series, brother Chandler’s story is up next (who I am thinking maybe partnered with meddling Miss Gore – eek) but I will definitely be picking it up.

Thank-you kindly to Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of Tempting the Player in exchange for my honest review.

  1. Well this looks like, a sinfully wicked read, sign me up! I had no idea that Armentrout had an adult series out, time to go check it out!

  2. I liked this one! Although, I think I liked Tempting the Best Man better. I wanted Bridget to put up more of a fight for some reason. But you're right.. Chad totally made the book! And I can't wait to see how JLA gets us to like Miss Gore, since she was so hideous in this book.

  3. I'm rereading Tempting the Player, and I must say Chandler and Miss Gore do have a lot in common : they're both control freaks, they both know how to get dirty details about others... And Chandler, the tough eldest brother, has a thing for flowers and gardening... He has this soft side to his personality, and we can assume Miss Gore too: she seems ashamed of blackmailing Bridget and takes a liking to her, so she is human after all. She's a nice person underneath a tough coating, exactly as Chandler.

It was great reading your review!
