They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

Eternal Rider is the first book in a spin-off from Larissa Ione's original series, Demonica.

Eternal Rider is the story of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, born from the union of a demon and an angel. Each carries a seal, given through a curse that if broken, will unleash their fate – Death, Famine, War & Pestilence.

During the events of Sin Undone, Reseph’s seal was broken which bought on his curse of Pestilence which spreads disease/plague. He is now hellbent on breaking the seals of his brothers and sister and bringing about the apocalypse.

Ares is the Horseman of War, and the fate of mankind rests on his shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. His seal is generally carried by a Fallen Angel but when the angel is murdered by Pestilence he passes the Agimortus (a trigger that will break the Seal), onto Cara.

Cara Thornhart is a human with the ability to heal animals. After receiving what she believes is an injured dog delivered to her home, she is attacked by members of the aegis believing she is a demon and saved by Ares. As gratitude to Cara for saving him, Hal the hellhound gives her a Hells kiss which bonds her to him, tying their life forces together and pulling her into the supernatural world. As the holder of the Agimortus, it becomes the horsemen's job to protect her at all costs.

Knowing a human doesn't live long holding the seal, It becomes a race against time to either find a fallen angel to pass the agimortus on to or locating Deliverance, a dagger which will enable the Horsemen to kill their brother.

Ares doesn’t see himself as anything other than a warrior but Cara who abhors violence, is stubborn and compassionate see’s another side of him; he is gentle, protective and caring towards her and slowly they begin to realise that they balance one another. I loved seeing their romance progress, and Larissa certainly knows how to write a steamy bed scene (wow!).

I adore Larissa Ione & whenever I start one of her books I know I need to have no other plans at any time because it is going to be impossible for me to put it down, it was no different for me with Eternal Rider, she has such an amazing talent for keeping the reader intrigued & the worlds she creates are amazing!

There was a lot of world building for the first half of the book but still plenty of action and suspense. The ending and HEA was wonderful, I love finishing a book smiling.

I really enjoyed seeing the characters from Demonica make an appearance in this series, especially the Demon brothers (mmm, Wraith!).

I can’t wait for book 2 in the Lords of Deliverance series to be released, Immortal Rider.
