REVIEW: The Beginning (Blood Hunter #1) by Robin Badillo

Author: Robin Badillo
Pages: kindle
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: eXtasy Books

From the blurb. (Goodreads)

For thirty years, Raven Prince has lived just fine with no mate and no hassles. The carefree vampire, happy to be the odd-girl-out in a small, close-knit coven, lusts for one thing and one thing only—human blood. The more handsome the snack, the happier she is.

Thorne Abbott, on the other hand, only has a taste for the blood of the vampire that savagely murdered his father eleven years before. The determined human won’t rest until that craving is satisfied, even if it means getting himself killed in the process.

A sexy game of pool in a small-town bar throws a wrench in both of their plans and ignites a flame so hot, neither could have extinguished even if they wanted to.

The hunter and the hunted battle with themselves and each other as passion, love and a quest for truth sends them on a deadly mission that’s sure to either destroy them…or set them free.

Can lovers from different worlds manage to see past their differences, or are there good reasons why the two species should never unite?

Will it be friend or foe that goes bump in the night?

REVIEW: 3 out of 5 stars

Raven Prince is a carefree, compassionate and beautiful vampire living with her small, close-knit coven. She has no desire to find a mate as her fellow vampires have and goes about her business seemingly without a care.

Thorne Abbott is out for revenge, he has been searching for the Vampire who murdered his father when he was a teen, his quest for retribution and peace is all he has wanted until he comes across Raven in a bar; everything he has known about vampires is about to change.

The ways vampires are portrayed in The Beginning are certainly not the typical cliché; they blend in with humanity and seem to have a tender, more caring side. It was nice reading about them in a lighter more down-to-earth sense; the humans seemed to be the more brutal of them.

Raven and Thorne couldn’t have been more different! He was the hunter, she the hunted but they formed a trust and a bond that aided them in working together to find out who was responsible for the death of his father, he had believed what he had been told from a close relative while Raven believed the scenario he had painted couldn’t be at all true.

I enjoyed watching them seek the truth and eventual resolution.

I liked the main protagonists, Thorne wasn’t the Alpha I tend to love but he was strong and determined, I loved Raven for her loyalty, trust and witty banter. They were a great couple and complimented one another well.

The secondary characters were well placed and though out, I look forward to learning more about them in future books, especially poor Jacobe who was sweet and endearing; I’d love to read more of his back-story.

This book was enjoyable, the story had a nice pace, some interesting twists and turns and I enjoyed Robin’s writing style, the dialogue was fun and witty.

I look forward to reading the next installment in this series, The Betrayal.
