Synopsis. (Goodreads)

Still reeling from her mother’s death, news anchor Jane Caldwell’s life is upended further when she learns the father she lost twenty years ago is still alive. Her mother’s will unleashes a manhunt—the Caldwell sisters must find their father, or their mother’s estate will not be settled, and their questions about his disappearance will remain unanswered.

Jane’s search leads her to Guatemala to investigate a man who claims to be her father and heir to the family fortune. Needing a translator, she enlists enigmatic Harrison DeNeuve, a sexy ex-patriot with a penchant for wearing dark sunglasses in public.

As Jane struggles to reunite with her would-be father, Harrison fights to suppress his desire for Jane. He has a secret—one he’s sequestered himself in a third-world jungle hideaway to keep safe—and falling for Jane puts more than his heart at risk.

Jane finds two men in Guatemala—a father and a lover—but can she trust either of them?

** For the purpose of this review, I am using the name in which we are first introduced to for the main hero **

Jane Caldwell, a news anchor from Albuquerque, New Mexico is reeling from the recent death of her mother and the knowledge that her father who she believed died in the Gulf War when she was 6years old could possibly still be alive.

Jane is one of three sisters and their mothers will stipulates the estate won’t be settled until their father is found. With the help of a Private Investigator, Jane’s search takes her to Guatemala where she runs into enigmatic and handsome Harrison DeNeuve who agrees to be her translator and offers her a place to stay.

The attraction and chemistry is pretty much instantaneous between Jane and Harrison, but she learns he has a hidden secret of his own and a wayward past he is trying hard to leave behind. (I won’t reveal what this is). I enjoyed this aspect of the story and his reasons for choosing to be a recluse.

When Jane locates who she believes is her father she instantly requests his return to the family ranch – it is here I had the most issues with the book; she was all too trusting and if it wasn’t for Harrison’s support and protection, even when they returned to the ranch she would have been in all sorts of trouble.

Another issue I had was Jane wasn’t prepared for the trip at all – the language, transfers, accommodation, clothing/shoes etc. hadn’t been thought of or organized, I would have expected a little more common sense in her situation but she was left to rely on a total stranger; not the strongest or smartest trait in a character.

‘Hold Me’ is the first book in this new trilogy by Lucianne Rivers and was a light and easy read that took us on a journey through an exotic location. It was a sensual and sexy read that is well written and had a nice ending and HEA.

I am curious to see where Jane’s younger sisters Margo and Allison’s adventures take them and if the true Zach Caldwell will be found.
