REVIEW: 4 out of 5 stars
A Job From Hell by Jayde Scott is her debut novel in the Ancient Legends series and is an exciting and fresh read which had me captivated from the first to the very last page.
Amber is a 17 year old student who has accepted a house-keeping summer job in Scotland to earn some extra dollars for college. When her brother, Dallas finds what appear to be gemstones in the woods, they see it as a get rich quick scheme and set-out to steal them.
What Amber didn’t realize was she had won an age old race (think 500years) and has inadvertently entered the paranormal world by winning. It has also gifted her with a number of abilities which holds her in high esteem in their world and it could also be something that could get her killed.
Aidan McAllister is Amber’s new boss, who is absolutely gorgeous and has a number of secrets, the biggest being he is a Vampire Bounty Hunter, the other being she is his Mate.
I loved reading about Amber; she is sarcastic, smart, humorous and has a strong voice, Aidan appeared her opposite, he is brooding, serious and mysterious; I enjoyed the dialogue between them and the dynamic of their relationship.
The flow of the story is smooth and leaves the reader yearning to discover what is going to happen next. I enjoyed Ms Scott’s style of writing, the setting is vividly detailed and draws you right it; you can just imagine a big old mansion surrounded by forests in the middle of nowhere.
The characters were all well-developed and likeable, I especially loved Kieran (who is hilarious!), Cass, Angel and Clare, there are a number of supernatural beings in this book including Succubi, a demi-goddess, demons, the daughter of Lucifer and a new one for me, Shadows.
What I would have liked is to see more of the abilities Amber should have gained when she won the race, she had a few ghost sightings but that seemed to be the extent of it; I was also curious to know more about the race and it’s main purpose, I was quite interested in this aspect of the storyline and wanted to know more.
A wonderful debut novel in this exciting new series for Ms Scott. I look forward to reading the sequel, Doomed.
Sounds interesting and fun. :)
