Synopsis. (Goodreads)

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
REVIEW: 4 out of 5 stars

Evie has been a member of the IPCA( The International Paranormal Containment Agency) since the age of 8, taken on because of her unusual ability to see through the glamours that most paranormals use.

I loved Evie as a heroine, she was smart and sassy and had the strength and determination to bring down paranormals with her taser ‘Tasey’, I liked her little quirks and fascination with the outside world but there was a loneliness and a sense of wanting to belong which really made me feel for her, her life is confined to the walls of the agency.

Evie has an unusual dark faeire prophecy surrounding her which I found intriguing, there are many twists and turns which had me guessing throughout which is a good sign. I was curious about her abilities and what she was and how Reth played a role in it all. There was the mystery about who/what is killing other paranormals that had a very close link to Evie.

There are 2 love interests, Reth her creepy ex faerie boyfriend and invisible shape-shifting Lend who I adored, he was sweet and a really nice guy. Reth was annoying and over-bearing but as much as I wasn't a fan, I have to say, I'm intrigued.

I found Lend to be fascinating! His abilities were certainly unique, being able to shift into another person certainly had its advantages, he seemed like a typical ‘normal’ guy with a regular father but the way he came to be is certainly unusual.

The secondary characters were enjoyable, I loved Lish, Evie’s mermaid best friend and was saddened by what happened to her, I also enjoyed her guardian Raquel and her many sighs but felt she was never completely honest with her.

I am curious about the IPCA and their intentions, although they seemed sincere in controlling the paranormals rather than killing them, I think there is an ulterior motive and their actions are more about their ignorance rather than facts. I am looking forward to learning more about the organization in upcoming installments.

It’s a quick and easy read with lots of action and interesting supernatural creatures - Vampires, hags, werewolves, faerie, mermaids, trolls etc.

Paranormalcy is well-written with a unique plot and even pacing, it is a great start to this new series and I am looking forward to reading the next installment, ‘Supernaturally’ which has a release date of July 26th.
