Maggie is a
seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track but
then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating, barely, and her
boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football schalorship.
Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping
tight with everything she has. Then she meets Caleb. She saves his life and
instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing but she is
supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. But things change when
they touch, sparks ignite. Literally. They imprint with each other and she sees
their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is
she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a
whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew
existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's
ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive. Now, not only
has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well,
but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both
from gaining their abilities and take her from him. Can Caleb save her or will
they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?
REVIEW: 4 out of 5 stars
Significance is the first book in the
Significance series by author Shelly Crane.
17 year old Maggie’s year
hasn’t started off all too well, her mother upped and left her and her father,
her father has retreated into himself and her long-term boyfriend, Chad dumped her
for his college football plans; but everything changed when she met Caleb, the
cousin of her school friend Kyle.
Caleb Jacobson is from a
family of what is known as Aces, they have supernatural abilities and imprint
(bond) with their destined soul mate; Imprinting hasn’t happened in Caleb’s clan for a
number of years so it is something of extreme importance. It is a huge surprise when it happens between Caleb and Maggie but also somewhat of a shock as they are so young, they are over the moon but it has also been noticed by a rival clan intent
on stopping their ascension – what happens when they come into their abilities.
To be apart meant pain so
they needed to find away to be with one another without Maggie’s father who
seemed to want to reestablish himself in the role now she is dating finding
out; not an easy feat when Caleb’s enemies are invading Maggie’s dreams to
cause harm and the only protection she had was through Caleb’s touch, I
certainly didn’t envy them all the changes from their new relationship.
Significance is a heart-warming read,
the relationship shared between Maggie and Caleb was really sweet, based on
truth and an understanding that they are meant for one another - the perfect
match, it showed the emotions they were both feeling perfectly, it was
certainly a confusing and at times painful time for them but they dealt with
it. I am not usually a fan of relationships that progress at an unrealistic
pace, but it seemed to work in Significance.
I enjoyed the many twists
and turns and action scenes, it kept the pacing even and the story enjoyable.
The secondary characters
are written well and developed perfectly, I loved Caleb’s family, especially
Gran and I am curious to see if Kyle will try to sabotage the relationship
between Maggie and Caleb, I felt quite sorry for him and the feelings he had
for Maggie. I am also quite interested to know why Marcus from the enemy clan holds such a grudge
against the Jacobson family, he seemed to go beyond the orders he is given and
I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of him.
Ms Crane has written a
fascinating story, the concept of Aces and Ms Crane’s take on Soul-mates or
Imprinting had me intrigued and I am eager to read the sequel to find out what
will happen next; especially with Bish, Maggie's brother and Kyle, it will be interesting times
for the new couple.
Overall, if you enjoy a
wonderful love story filled with drama and mystery then Significance will be perfect.
The only thing I found
quite distracting were the number of spelling errors and incorrect words, it
wasn’t overly distracting but was quite noticeable.
