INTERVIEW:

Welcome to Obsession with Books Samantha, Are you able to tell us a little about your book First Light and yourself?

Thanks so much for having me!

First Light is a YA romantic thriller and book one in the Project Five Fifteen series about a group of teenage assassins and the girl who falls for one of them.

As for me – I love to travel, I love to write and when I can manage to do both at the same time I’m very happy. :)

Can you tell us a bit about your Project Five Fifteen series and how many books you have planned for it?

The Project Five Fifteen series is about a group of boys trying to escape their dark past. They have resigned themselves to living life on the run, never caring about anyone or anything, but then Kalen meets Ronnie and things begin to change for all of them.

Where did the inspiration for your series come from?

It's hard to pinpoint. I've always been a fan of characters such as Jason Bourne and had been thinking about the story I wanted to tell for a while, but I started writing it one day after watching a YouTube clip of a team of Free Runners. They’re mind blowing.

When and why did you begin writing?

I've always loved telling stories, but I started writing right after I lost someone very close to me. I was seventeen and all over the place emotionally. Writing was a great outlet.

What is your ideal day as an author?

Rainy days. When I don’t feel guilty for locking myself away in a room and writing all day long. I love the sound of heavy rain against the window.

Do you mind telling us how long it took for you to write First Light?

About three years from start to finish, while juggling my day job. Wow that sounds like ages – it feels like a lot less.

Is there anything about you that would surprise your readers? Any quirks, habits, routines etc.

Hmmm not sure. I spend a lot of time drawing my characters, as it helps clear my head when things get a little fuzzy.

Are you able to describe what your writing process is like?

I don’t have much of a process. I have my characters in my head and a very rough outline of plot, but that’s as far as the organisation goes. Ideally I like to find corners to hide away in and write, usually with Radiohead, Black Lab or Dead Letter Circus blasting through my headphones. I’ve been told I’m like a cat, because I find really small nooks to curl up in. I don’t think cats tend to write as much as I do though.

Are there any books or authors that have most influenced you?

Point Horror books got me hooked on reading from a really young age: R.L Stine, Richie Tankersley Cusick, Christopher Pike... they were so much fun! In terms of influences, Stephen King always floors me – he’s the ultimate storyteller.

Is there are book you are reading at the moment? And do you tend to favor a particular genre?

I like most genres, but paranormal is always a front-runner. Right now I'm trying to get As You Were finished, which doesn't leave me as much time as I'd like to read. I have a huge TBR list.

If First Light were to be made into a movie, who would you chose to play the roles of your main characters?

That would be an awesome dilemma to have! I’m really not sure. Maybe a Chace Crawford/Hayden Christensen vibe for Kalen – Chace definitely has eyebrows worthy of a Kalen scowl! Sadly, they'd probably both be a bit old for my movie now ;)

What is up next for you?

I'm hoping to have As You Were ready before the end of the year and I'm also writing Becoming. I'm really excited about both of them.

Quick Questions:

Fave band / television series / movie? These are impossible questions! I'll go with: Radiohead/True Blood/Star Wars (all six of them)

Coffee or tea? Tea!

E-reader or hardcopy? Hardcopy.

Cats or Dogs? Both.

Ideal travel destination? Anywhere I haven't been before.

Thank-you so much Samantha for taking time to talk to us today!
