A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and
her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her
brother's life—and her own.
Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to the middle of nowhere for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.
Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.
The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?
Victoria Scott's breathtaking novel grabs readers by the throat and doesn't let go.

About
the author: (from Victoria Scotts website)
I’m
a teen fiction writer with a die-hard affection for dark and humorous books. My
work is represented by Sara Crowe of Harvey Klinger literary agency. I have a
master’s degree in marketing, and currently live in Dallas with my husband,
Ryan.
My
first book series started with THE COLLECTOR, and was published
by Entangled Teen in April 2013. The second book in the trilogy, THE
LIBERATOR, will release August 2013. My next series kicks off with FIRE &
FLOOD and is being published by Scholastic, March 2014.
Looks interesting! I keep seeing the promo for this one - I guess a lot of people are involved in the publicity. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree! There has been a bit of publicity, its just a shame it won't be released until March.
DeleteTo be honest, I don't like the cover. There's nothing on it that screams "pick me! pick me!"
ReplyDeleteIn fact, it looks like a self-published cover (no offense to self-pub covers).
I'll pick it up solely because it's by Victoria Scott! She's such a sweet-heart. :)
The more I see it the more I like it I'm definitely keen to read it.
DeleteThis sounds like it will be an interesting read! I must add it to my to-read list!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound really interesting, quite unique amongst other YAs.
DeleteOh this sounds so interesting and the cover is nice!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it sounds great! :-)
DeleteOohhh I LOVE the image of the fire and feather...while I didn't love Victoria Scott's The Collector, I'm willing to give this a try!
ReplyDeleteI didn't enjoy The Collector as much as I hoped so my expectations for this are high ;)
DeleteThis cover is pretty cool! And the series is new to me :)
ReplyDeleteIts sounds great so I'm hoping it's a good one :-)
DeleteI love this. I didn't know she had another series coming out.
ReplyDeleteI only recently heard of it as well, it sounds very different to her other YA :-)
DeleteThis sounds really good! It sounds a little bit like Kresley Cole's book, A Hunger Like No Other (technically the second book in her Immortals After Dark series). The story started out with all of the paranormal characters out on a Hie looking for three artifacts that would win them a ring to grant them wishes It's my second favorite book in the series (behind that sexy beast's Lothaire's). ;)
DeleteI'd love to read a YA version though and definitely one from Victoria Scott. But 2014? Whyyyyy?
I think we'll be seeing this one around a lot until the release date, 2014 is aaages away!
DeleteI haven't read the IAD series but I've wanted to for a long while! it definitely sounds like something I'd enjoy.
Love the font treatment for this one! But the burning feather (or anything with a feather) seems to be quite the cliche for YA covers lately. ;)
ReplyDeleteMe too Blythe but I think its a tad large - the feather reminds me of the cover of Antigoddess by Kendare Blake ;)
