Synopsis. (Goodreads)

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Review: 3 ½ out of 5 stars

I am a huge J. Lynn / Jennifer L. Armentrout fan and I literally stopped everything I was doing to read Frigid when my pre-ordered copy appeared on my kindle.

I adore the friends to lovers’ trope and Kyler Quinn and Sydney Bell have been best of friends and inseparable since childhood. Sydney’s feelings though go beyond what they share but she knows that Kyler is a love-em and leave-em kind of guy so she has never acted on it to avoid ruining their friendship.

When they end up stranded on a ski resort because of a snow storm, it’s where their friendship is tested, emotions are high and they act on their feelings but not without misunderstandings, drama and a bit of mystery thrown in with someone trying to cause a bit of grief and destruction.

Sydney was a likeable and relatable heroine but how she put up with Kyler’s string of one night stands whilst being in love with him was beyond me. Kyler was possessive and protective towards Sydney which at times was a little cave man but I came to like him and his smexy cockiness as the book progressed, he just wasn’t one of my favourite JLA characters unfortunately.

The writing is wonderful and I really enjoyed the dual points of view and although the story is predictable it was entertaining and fun none-the-less. To me it definitely read more like an adult romance rather than new adult though.

Overall, Frigid was a quick and easy read filled with a lot of elements I tend to appreciate in a contemporary romance – mild drama, believable emotions, and smexy moments. It is a nice friend to lovers’ story which I enjoyed but wasn’t completely wowed by, I’m still excited to read the next book in the Frigid series.

  1. I just read Frigid and really enjoyed it. I'll read pretty much anything Jennifer Armentrout writes ;) I agree with you about the romance being more adult. Great review!

  2. This was my least favorite J.L.A book. I really wanted to like it, but the characters were so darn frustrating. I personally liked Wait for You better. Also, even the plot was so predictable, that there was nothing really holding my attention.
I'm glad that you liked it despite a few issues. I also thought the book read more like adult than new adult because of the insane amount of sex in the book.
    Anyways, lovely review, Sharon!

  4. It's nice seeing a review of this book that isn't a million stars. And I think 80% of NA nowadays is Adult which is hurting the NA reputation I think. Just call it Adult, people read adult.
Anyway, I've liked all her books but I'm just not really excited for this one. I think it's that cheesy cover...(why is he shirtless in the snow?)

    1. I thought the same thing when I first saw the cover Nereyda!(although I do love that smexy chest ;)

I've loved everything so far by JLA but this one didn't wow me unfortunately.

  6. I'm glad you reviewed this one! The reviews have been so mixed, it seems like it's just a "meh" kind of book. :/ I don't like the Hs who do the constant ho'ing around while the heroine suffers in love with him plots, even in a friends-to-lovers story. At least I can cross this one off of my to-read soon list. Wonderful review as always, chica. :)

    1. Thanks Barbara! I usually end up swooning or thinking for a while after reading a JLA book but not this one unfortunately, it was still enjoyable but too predictable.

  7. SMEXY. YES. I preordered this one and I INTEND to get to it ASAP. I have to say, it sorta bums me out that it was just an "okay" read for you, Sharon - I think I've come to feel like JLA can almost do no wrong! But I really appreciate your honesty, and I am glad despite the bumps in the road, you still found some things to enjoy in Frigid.

    Have a wonderful day!

    1. This is my first less than 5* JLA read, it was good but not brilliant as her other books have been for me. I can't wait to see what you think Molli :-)

  8. I'm currently making my way through this. I really hope I like it. Based on your review it seems ok but I'm really worried it's like WFY which I wasn't really pleased with :/

I do love the sexual tension between Syd and Kyler though!

  9. I have been wanting to read this since my pre-ordered appeared to, but I just haven't had the time with review books. Great review. It does seem like so many of NA contemporaries are becoming predictable doesn't it. I have read so many lately, they seem to run together and I have to stop and think about who and what went with which book. Nevertheless, I do enjoy them. Thanks for sharing.
