Armchair BEA Day 2: Author Interaction

Armchair BEA Day 2: Author Interaction

Author Interaction: Let’s talk interacting with authors IRL (in real life) or online. This is your opportunity to talk about your favorite author readings that you have attended. Or, you can feature your favorite author fan moment (i.e., an author sent you a tweet or commented on your blog). Maybe you even want to share how your interactions have changed since becoming a blogger or share your own tips that you have learned along the way when interacting with authors as a blogger.

Unfortunately, after three years of blogging I am yet to attend an author event and signing; we don’t get a lot of the YA authors that I usually read visiting Australia but I am hoping to eventually get to a few bookish events in the not too distant future.

A majority of the interactions I have with authors is through social media - I’ll tweet a review if I’ve loved their book or have a conversation via email when they request I review a book but as I’m quite shy I’d really prefer to stalk from afar although admittedly I do get a real kick out of seeing an author I adore favourite, retweet a tweet or mention me in one of theirs.

I’ve also in the past and as part of blog tours had the opportunity to interview some of my fave authors – Julie Kagawa, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Wendy Higgins and Katie McGarry to name a few. I still get super excited with even the smallest interaction or comment, it never gets old.

What interactions have you had with authors?

  1. Indeed every small interaction with a favourite author is to be savoured. You never know occasionally authors move about a little and one may do a visit to Australia at some time!

  2. Interviewing is so much fun! And while not many authors go to Australia, maybe you'll see Melina Marchetta before the rest of us!

  3. Yay! I'm glad to hear that you still get excited about even small interactions. I have a feeling I'm going to be that way too. At least I hope so ;)

  4. Those interviews are amazing! I would love to have them on my blog for a Q&A!

  5. I haven't had many opportunities either (and the ones I did have were before I paid attention to that sort of thing). When I was interviewing for a job at a bookstore, I actually found out that my favorite author had done a signing there a couple years before. It's all in the timing!

  6. It's so cool that you got to interview Wendy Higgins. I loved her Sweet Evil books.

  7. Being a blogger is awesome ESPECIALYL since we interact so much with authors and the chance to interview them! Good luck on meeting more authors--living in Australia seems pretty cool though!
