Review: Mayhem by Jamie Shaw

Mayhem (Mayhem #1)Mayhem

Author: Jamie Shaw
Series: Mayhem
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Genre: New Adult
Release date: 20th January 2015

Synopsis: (Goodreads)

When college freshman Rowan Michaels meets gorgeous, up-and-coming rock star Adam Everest, she knows a player like him is the last thing she needs after her ex-boyfriend shattered her heart. But she can't stop thinking about the kiss they shared on his tour bus.
On the first day of school, Rowan is stunned when Adam saunters into her French class. He's soon failing miserably, and, on a whim, she offers to tutor him. But Adam doesn't recognize her as a makeup-free, glasses-clad college student—a far cry from the beautiful, mysterious "Peach" he met at his concert.
During a wild weekend on tour with the band, Rowan can't help falling for the sweet guy buried beneath Adam's rocker persona. Yet she knows she could never compete with the girls constantly throwing themselves at his feet. She'd just end up hurt … again.
Peach is all Adam thinks about, though, and when Rowan realizes this, she has a decision to make: stay just friends to protect her fragile heart … or reveal the truth about the night they met and admit she's fallen completely, hopelessly in love with him.

Review: 4½ out of 5 stars

Mayhem isn’t the sort of book I tend to read and enjoy, rock stars just aren’t for me – only because I can’t see myself liking the groupie and touring aspect personally.

Rowan Michaels is the sort of character I tend to love, naïve and innocent but still takes no rubbish from anyone. At the beginning of the book she is out with her fabulously amazing best friend, Dee dressed up in gear she wouldn’t normally wear and at a bar watching a band, Rowan is in a long term relationship and it’s here she catches her cheating boyfriend and is then consoled by the bands lead singer Adam Everest, they share an amazing kiss and its left at that.

Adam was a sweetheart! nicknaming Rowan, Peach, he never expected to see her again – I love these types of tropes and they then end up in the same French class, unbeknownst to him, when he is failing French miserably it’s Rowan that steps forward and offers to tutor him, the only way this could come about was if she toured with the band and at this stage he is still clueless about who she is. The events over the course of the weekend they spent together were fun; we get touring, fun banter, study sessions and some really sweet moments. The band members were amazing and I can’t wait for future instalments to read more about them. We do have a few clichés but I was able to overlook them and enjoy the overall story.

I liked all of the side characters (except of course the ex), Dee was a fabulous best friend, Leti was great and Shawn was especially amazing as were the other band mates. We get a small snippet of Dee and Joel Gibbon’s book at the end and I can’t wait to get hold of it.

Mayhem has great writing, a fun storyline, wonderful characters and an amazing romance that balanced this book out beautifully.

Thank you to Avon Impulse via Edelweiss for the opportunity to read and review Mayhem.
