Synopsis (Goodreads)

Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn't risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

Review: 4 out of 5 stars

Chasing River is the third book in the Burying Water series by K.A Tucker but can certainly be read as a stand-alone, I haven’t read books 1 or 2 but never at any time felt lost, although I am now curious about Alex and Jesse.

When twenty-five-year old Amber Welles leaves her small home town in Oregon to travel overseas she didn’t expect an almost death experience in Dublin, when she is rescued by a mysterious stranger she is more than eager to track him down to thank him for saving her life.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney has many secrets that he cannot divulge to anyone, especially Amber who manages to find him at his place of work. His brothers association with a radical group is starting to meld into his family life and when something goes wrong it is River forced to reluctantly protect his brother.

I liked both Amber and River, they couldn’t have been more different – the worlds and their family lives are chalk and cheese but the attraction and their chemistry is off the charts from the moment the met. I would normally call what they had insta-love or insta-lust because it all takes place more or less over the span of a week but it didn’t feel rushed or forced at all, it all flowed and came together nicely despite Amber living in the USA and River in Ireland.

We meet some wonderful side-characters, Rowen and Ivy were amazing and I’m hoping they get their own book and I really enjoyed Amber’s interactions with her father. Aengus was an instant dislike for me unfortunately.
There was a lot of background information on the IRA and Ireland which I found myself really enjoying. You could tell how much research and thought that the author had put into the story which was wonderfully written and had me engrossed from the very first page, we also get both River and Amber’s POV which worked well.

Thank you to Atria Books via Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review Chasing River.

  4. I remember reading the second book in one of her other series and never reading the others, haha. I LOVE when series work out that way. Then I don't have to really feel all that guilty for having another unfinished series in my life!
