Synopsis (Goodreads): When life gives you a blank canvas, make art.

Sloane Whitaker hates everything about moving to Texas. She hates leaving behind her friends and half her family in New York, starting over senior year at Austin’s NextGen Academy, and having to say she lives in Texas. Most of all, she hates that it’s all her fault. If she wants to earn her way back to the Big Apple, she has to prove she can still be the perfect daughter.

Which means no vandalism art, no trouble at school, and absolutely no Tru Dorsey, her serial screw-up neighbor, who loves nothing more than pushing her buttons.

But from the moment he vaults onto the roof outside her bedroom, there is something about him that makes her want to break every rule. Suddenly it’ s not the ten things she hates about Tru that are at the top of her list. It’s the ten reasons she doesn’t want to be without him.

Review: 3 out of 5 stars

Ten things Sloane Hates about Tru was an entertaining read and just what I needed at this moment, light-hearted and without unnecessary drama.

When Sloane Whitaker is forced by her mother to finish her final schooling year in Texas and leave her friends in NYC she is less than impressed but it is her mother’s way of getting her away from the trouble that she had been in.

I was so curious about what Sloane had done & we get snippets along the way but the suspense of it all kept me interested.

The characters were each likeable, Tru Dorsey; Sloane’s new neighbour had an interesting backstory but I don’t feel like we had any real conclusion to the predicament he was in. I also liked Sloane despite her stubbornness with the move and change, she was very woe is me.

We get a small amount of romance but it wasn’t at the forefront of the story which I appreciated.

The title is a little misleading, I didn’t get any hate vibes or animosity from the characters at all, and sure Tru could be a little annoying and persistent but I enjoyed the interactions that they had together. I felt she hated that she had to move and leave her friends more than anything.

I really enjoy Tera Lynn Childs writing style, I have read her previous series; Medusa Girls which had a completely different, darker feel to it; this was fun and entertaining and definitely more light hearted.

Thank you to Entangled Crush for the opportunity to read and review Ten things Sloane Hates about Tru.

  3. All I could think about after read the blurb is to get an art group together and paint murals for people (it is done here in my town for the bored art kids).

I'm glad there wasn't any big animosity from the characters. I don't like undue drama. Might have to check this one out.

  4. I was already smiling while reading the blurb, so I'm glad you liked it. It definitely sounds like the type of light and fun book I'd read. The title makes me think of the movie Ten Things I Hate About You.
