Review + Excerpt: Temper for You (For You #3) by Genna Rulon

Temper for You (For You, #3)Temper for You

Author: Genna Rulon
Series: For You
Pages: 312
Publisher: Genna Rulon

Synopsis: (Goodreads)

"Life is messy. Love is messier." -Catch and Release

Meg Adeio has led a life of isolation—not by choice, by necessity—until one act of heroism forces her out of seclusion. Despite a past shrouded in mystery, Meg is “adopted” by an eclectic group of friends that become the family she never had. Life was good for the first time in…ever.

Or it was until Westly Black reappeared on her doorstep. She knew he was the last man any woman should give her time to—only good for one thing—yet a temptation no woman could deny. Wes might make her life messy, but Meg’s eyes were wide open and she had it under control. At least she thought she did.

When past and present collide, loyalties are tested, forcing Meg to sacrifice her future to protect those she loves.

Temper For You is a gripping story of regret, deception, and redemption – filled with raw emotion, sarcastic wit, intrigue, and love’s propensity to forgive.

• Though Temper For You is a part of the For You Series, it can be read as a stand alone
• This story is appropriate for readers 18+

Review: 4  out of 5 stars

Temper for You is the third book in the For You series and introduces us to Meg Adeio and Westly Black.

Meg is a character that I instantly adored, she hides a tragic past, is reserved for good reason and doesn’t give herself freely; she never feels that she is worthy of anyone or anything so she keeps to herself. I wasn’t Westley ‘douchbag lawyers’ biggest fan in the previous book but I was fascinated by him, he is a successful lawyer also with a mysterious past and sets his sights on Meg; she is reluctant but he is persistent and goes after what he wants.

Genna Rulon’s strengths lie in writing amazing, realistic characters that interact on a believable level; the dialogue is fun and witty and the banter had me giggling on many occasions. The mystery of Meg’s past had me intrigued and I couldn’t help but feel for what she had been through, life hasn’t been easy and her forced isolation was out of necessity not want, Genna Rulan bought all the elements of the story together nicely – romance, suspense and intrigue.

Temper for You is an engaging story filled with scheming, betrayal and forgiveness; the romance is written beautifully and the drama unfolded realistically; it was emotionally intense from the very first chapter.

Genna Rulon’s descriptive writing is fabulous and we are given many unexpected twists and turns that kept the pacing consistent and the story highly entertaining, Temper for You is told from both Meg and Wes’s POV and it worked out well as we get to see into their thoughts and reactions which I always enjoy. We also get to catch up with Hunter and Everleigh and Sam and Griffin who are wonderful friends and a great support network for Meg.
Though Temper For You is a part of the For You Series, it can be read as a stand-alone although I do highly recommend reading the first two books in the series as they are both brilliant and introduce us to some great characters.

Thank you kindly to Genna Rulon for the opportunity to read and review Temper for You.

Quotes:

“What’s happening with us is special.  It won’t last forever, but it’s rare and undeniable.  I can’t make you any promises and I know you don’t want them.  Can we explore what we have until it runs its course?  I’m not done with you—it will take more than a few nights to get you out of my system, and I’d like to enjoy that time without a predetermined expiration date we arbitrarily set for ourselves.”

“You want to deny me and yourself?  I’ll give you that play—for now.  Let’s find out how much persuasion it’ll take for your house to fall.  What’s between us can’t be ignored, Meg, and don’t forget, persuasion is my bread and butter.  Make no mistake, it will happen, and when it does, I will enjoy every second. And so will you…All. Night. Long.”

“Megalicious, get your butt down here and have some dinner with us,” Sam called from downstairs.

After unburying myself from a mountain of books, I headed to the kitchen. Griffin was unloading an insane amount of Chinese food on the table while Sam brought over the drinks.

“I see you guys decided to order one of everything on the menu,” I laughed, only partially kidding.

“He’s a growing boy,” Sam teased while patting Griffin’s stomach.  “Plus, he needs to build up his energy…I have big plans for him,” she finished with a salacious grin directed at her man.

Griffin swatted her tush playfully in response.  “Your plans for me involve rearranging all the furniture in your bedroom, and not in the way I’d prefer.  Food may be the deposit, but that smile better be hinting at settling the remaining balance in more enjoyable ways.”

“We’ll see how much you complain about the rearranging, then I’ll make my decision on any tips,” Sam said.

“Lo, please…you can’t resist me,” he said with utter confidence.  “But don’t worry, I can’t resist you either—never could.”

I loved seeing them like this.  Sam had overcome more obstacles than any single person should ever have to face.  Life may have broken her, but she pulled herself back together— with the help of Griffin—and was stronger now than ever before.  She was the person I wished I could be: pure and brave, she was goodness personified.   I may be three years older than Sam, but I looked up to her, despite the fact that she regularly embarrassed me with her lack of filter and inappropriate over-shares.  Sam was Sam, and in her own way she was looking out for me.  She’d found her happily ever after, and now she was on a mission to find mine …even if she had to cram it down my throat.  I loved her for caring though.

Griffin captured my attention with a nudge and stage whispered, “How much you want to bet that after rearranging the furniture three times, she’ll decide to put it back in the original spots?”

“I’ll bet you five dollars you can distract her and never wind up lifting a bulging bicep,” I countered at full volume.

Sam’s eyes narrowed at Griffin.

“Dammit, Meg.  Stop foiling my evil schemes.  Now she’s onto me.”

Review: 5 out of 5 heartfelt stars

Contains possible spoilers from the first book.

I absolutely adored Only for You by Genna Rulon so I was super excited to receive a copy of Pieces For You which is Samantha Whitney and Griffin Everden’s story.

Although enough background information is given, to get a complete understanding of what happened to Sam it is best these books be read in order as this is more or less a continuation and follows on where Only for You left off.

Sam is slowly returning to the life she once lived after being brutalised and more or less left for dead, after spending months at a private facility to heal and recover from her horrific ordeal she has returned home to her best friend Everleigh and Everleigh’s FBI boyfriend Hunter; also lying in wait is Griffin who has had Sam in his sights for quite a while and isn’t too keen on letting her out of it now she is back.

Griffin was amazing! Self-assured, smexy, protective, kind and completely understanding of what Sam has suffered through, I admired him for his patience and his acceptance; he of course wasn’t without his faults but his support and consideration made me gush all over him throughout the book.

Both character were written to perfection, Genna Rulon wrote them in a way that was believable; you could feel all of their emotions – pain, heartache, love and lust. Sam’s strength of character and her courage was amazing! She had literally been through hell and back but didn’t want to remain a victim, times were tough but she made considerable progress throughout the course of the book with the help of smexy Griffin, they both undergo great emotional and personal growth and never stop being true to themselves and to each other. Their romance is so sweet and endearing, they complimented each other beautifully.

I loved Everleigh and Hunter in the first book and they were just as fabulous support characters, they played a huge role in this book and continued to both develop in their own relationship which is always nice to see in a series but played in pivotal role in Sam’s personal healing, they were awesome best friends. We also get to meet Meg who I also liked; I think she will have an interesting back-story. Therapist Thia had me giggling on many occasions, I loved her sass. Sam’s parents were unbelievably horrible!

The plot was solid, as Sam tried to put her life back together she is again being targeted with threats by a mysterious person and I have to say I had no idea at all who it could have been so this aspect did surprise me.

Genna’s writing is fluid and engaging and I loved the natural witty dialogue and the convincing characters’ interactions; it was a book I found really difficult to put down and the overall message and the subject matter I thought was dealt with extremely well, we also get Griffin’s POV which was a great inclusion.

Overall, Genna Rulon has done it again with a brilliantly wonderful, true-to-life and emotional story that draws you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. A marvellous sequel!

Thank-you kindly to Genna Rulon for the opportunity to read and review Pieces For You, it was truly perfect and greatly appreciated.

EXCERPT:

Displaying quote 10.jpg  Displaying quote 14.jpg Displaying quote 7.jpg

I made my way to the kitchen where I spotted Everleigh perched on Hunter’s lap as

he fed her an omelet. I grabbed a Greek yogurt from the fridge before joining them at the

kitchen table.

“I think I liked you better when you were all reserved and aloof…this touchy-feely

Hunter is kind of freaking me out,” I teased.

In reality, I was overjoyed to see my best friend finally receiving the affection and love

she deserved. Ev and Hunter’s journey to couplehood had been fraught with secrecy and

delayed gratification. At one point, I had debated drugging them both and throwing them

into bed together to speed up the process. I was getting sexually frustrated just watching

their self-denial…I’m not sure how Ev didn’t combust.

“You are just jealous you don’t have one of Hunter’s famous omelets. My man has many

talents—big, impressive talents.”

“Are you offering me a sample of Hunter’s impressive talent?”

Ev nearly spit the coffee out of her mouth.

“Paws off lady, I don’t share.”

“You always did monopolize all the good toys when we were kids, never sharing your

Malibu Barbie.”

“For the hundredth time, you had the same freaking Malibu Barbie, along with

her Malibu mansion, convertible, coordinating wardrobe, scooter, and whatever other

accessories Mattel had marketed that year. There was no reason for you to want my Malibu

Barbie,” Ev returned with exasperation. This was an ancient debate, which may pre-date

the conflict in the Middle East.

“But your Malibu Barbie had a couture hand-sewn wardrobe and Meme painted Barbie’s

nails with that little marker—so stylish…so me.”

“And then mom sewed a coordinating wardrobe for your Barbie and painted her nails.

There was no difference.”

“But your Barbie was the first, the trendsetter. Mine was just a copycat wannabe.”

Ev threw her hands in the air dramatically. “I give up! Fine, you want my Malibu

Barbie? We can switch. Will that make you happy and finally end this ridiculous debate?”

“No need, I switched them during a sleepover one night. I’ve had the innovative

fashionista for the last thirteen years.”

“Are you freaking kidding me? You stole my Barbie? What is wrong with you?” she

asked, no longer pretending to be annoyed by our age-old dispute…oops, I probably

shouldn’t have fessed up to that particular truth.

I shrugged. “Sorry, but you really didn’t appreciate her. You didn’t even notice when I

made the swap—what kind of mother are you?”

Ev lunged across the table and would have caught me if Hunter’s arm hadn’t locked

around her waist and hauled her back into his lap.

“Why you—“ Ev didn’t get the chance to finish what was sure to be a scathing reprimand

because Hunter’s mouth was on hers in the blink of an eye, distracting her with what I can only say was impressive technique.

When he finally broke the kiss, Ev was glassy-eyed and breathless.

“Would you like an omelet, Sam?” Hunter asked as if he had not just laid a scorching

kiss on my best friend seconds before. Bravo, Hunter, bravo.

“You are not preparing breakfast for that…that…Barbie snatcher. Come on, Mr. FBI

Man, can’t you drag her down to headquarters and charge her with something? She may

have even departed the country with Barbie at some point. That’s a federal offense—do

something useful with that badge of yours.”

Hunter rose, somehow managing to hoist Everleigh over his shoulder, and started down

the hall.

“Excuse us, Sam. Your best friend evidently needs a reminder of how useful I can be.”

I could hear Ev’s half-hearted protests as Hunter shut her bedroom door. I laughed

aloud at their antics. Ev was one of the most determined people I had ever met. She could

easily steamroll over most adversaries. It was divine intervention that she fell head over

heels for the one man who could best her. He challenged her and she loved every minute of

it. They were a unit, stronger together than their individual halves.
