Thank you for the opportunity to read Off Planet by Aileen Erin, the first book in the Aunare Chronicles.

I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately, nothing has held my attention until Off Planet; I was hooked, completely engrossed and wanted more! I loved every moment of it and I was actually disappointed when I finished and realised the next book won’t be released until 2020. It actually left me little teary on a few occasions reading about the MC, I can’t remember the last time that a book affected me so emotionally.

Our MC is Maite Martinez, a halfer – she is half Earther and half Aunare; an alien race that Earth sees as a threat. Maite has remained hidden from SpaceTech – an organisation that invade and steal other planets sources, running with her mother and at times living in poverty to avoid capture, she also teaches self-defence classes and works at a diner; on Aunare she is the lost di Aetes heir. The capture of Maite would mean war between Earth and Aunare so it was vital that she remain hidden.

When Maite blows her cover, she is sentenced to the worst planet in the known galaxy, Abaddon, a volcano planet prison where she is more or less tortured daily in the job that she is assigned. I absolutely adored Maite! She was a strong but stubborn character and despite what she had to endure continued to look out for her friends over herself. You couldn’t help but hope for relief and happiness for her after everything that she had to endure, my heart completely and utterly broke for her. Her life was tough but I can see that she is destined for greatness, she’s a born leader.

The secondary characters were written well – Roan, Ahiga, Audrey, Santiago and Tyler were fabulous support to Maite; Declan didn’t make the best decisions for Maite and to me came across as weak, I couldn’t quite work out his intentions towards her & I often felt he’d failed her more than helped; I understood his predicament but his choices and actions were poorly executed. Lorne was always watching and observing and to be honest had me swooning! He was mysterious and I loved the way he supported, guided and seemed to worship Maite, we soon find out why which I am keen to see explored further but their interactions were perfect and I’m hoping to see more romance in the next book.

The pacing of Off Planet was perfect, I was completely engrossed in the story; the writing was engaging and the plot was flawless; I would have loved more background as to why Earth and Aunare were so desperate to go to war and what the end result (besides complete annihilation) would be; was it only a group so focussed on power and control or was there more? I’d love to learn more about the Aunare and their differences – besides physically and their strength. I hope this is explored more in the sequel.

I loved this book, super excited for the next book, Off Balance which has an anticipated February 2020 release date.

This book was a light and easy read; it was sweet and had me hooked from the very first page.

Josie and Garrett were written beautifully! Josie has no interest in baseball at all after her father left her for the game, Injured Garrett lives for baseball and dreams of pursuing it as a career; when an opportunity arises for Josie to call games alongside Garrett she is hesitant but she soon finds herself enjoying it and also spending time with him.

Josie was quick-witted, stubborn, determined and a hard worker; I absolutely adored Garrett and how persistent he was, he was cocky and also quick-witted, the banter between them was fantastic. I adored them booth and couldn't help for a HEA for them. They stole my heart.

The baseball aspect was written well, I am clueless so was a little lost initially but it was all done very well and you can tell that the author knew alot about baseball.

The side characters were brilliant! Mai especially was the perfect best friend and I would love to read a book from her perspective. Josie's mother was a little frustrating, I felt that she was holding Josie back from happiness because of her own personal experience. All of the characters felt genuine.

I love the message behind the story, follow your heart and take risks. It was written beautifully and I will definitely be picking up more books by this author.

One Foot in the Grave is the first book in The Mortician’s Daughter series by C.C. Hunter. I have adored everything that I have read by this wonderful author so I was eager to dive into this and it didn’t fail to disappoint.

Our MC is seventeen-year-old Riley Smith, the daughter of a mortician who seems to bring the ghosts home with him much to Riley’s annoyance as she has the ability to communicate and see the dead as well as help them to resolve their issues and move on.

Riley was such a great character, she has never fit in at school because of her father’s occupation and her mother died when she was four years-old but she is ready for a new start in her new school and to start afresh. It is her second move in a short period of time as her father keeps losing his jobs, she believes as a result of him being a closet alcoholic but she hasn’t been able to prove it.

When a ghost comes to Riley, she realises that he is very different to the others, he looks different and is more ‘real’, he is also very clearly hiding something but she can’t stop her growing feelings for him the more time that they spend together clearly knowing that there can be no future between them.

I thought Hayden was great and I was able to guess his story from the beginning but I wanted to know more! I loved his interactions with Riley but I never felt a romance was a possibility especially when there was someone ‘living’, Jacob Adams that was paying her attention. It was a strange love-triangle.

The story also follows a ghost who has come to Riley begging for help to find her ring to pass on to her family but Riley soon realises that she didn’t die by accident and when she stumbles across the location she also stumbles across the murderer who has his sights now on Riley.

There was a lot going on in this book which made for an exciting read! Between Riley’s feelings between two boys, her father’s issues, her ghostly problems, a serial rapist with Riley on his mind; it was entertaining and mysterious with a great cast of characters. The ending has also left me eager for the next book in the series, Two Feet in the Grave.

If you are after a mysterious, entertaining and well-written paranormal YA, I highly recommend this book.

I don’t know where to start with this review! I haven’t read a book that has had me completely engrossed and wanting more in such a long time. Despite the complex world-building and intricate plot I couldn’t put this book down.

Catarina Agatta is the daughter of a legendary geneticist, she is also a professional hacker who can destroy a mainframe and complex firewalls, something that she also learnt from her brilliant father. When Cat’s dad, Lachlan Agatta is kidnapped by a shady organisation known as Cartaxus, she is left to fend and protect herself from the deadly plague outbreak which turns regular humans in to zombie like creatures that explode and further spread the disease.

When a Cartaxus soldier appears with news of Catarina’s father’s death, her world is turned upside down and she learns that everything that she once knew has been a complete lie and there was more to her father’s work than she originally thought and she may be the last hope in eradicating the deadly plague with a vaccine that was created before her dads death.

Catarina was a wonderful character, she really shone with her strength, determination and her lack of fear; her life hasn’t appeared to be easy with her often describing her father as absent so she was independent and more than capable to look after herself. Cole is a specialised soldier with implants to protect Catarina and I absolutely adored him! He was a mystery and one that I enjoyed getting to know. We have a small amount of romance but it was definitely in the background. The side characters weren’t as developed but each played an important role in the storyline.

The world-building was extremely technical, creative and complex and I admit I did find myself confused at times, In Catarina’s world people are implanted with technology to recode their DNA, allowing them to change their bodies in any way they like. I couldn’t picture the implanted technology and how it all worked, it all seemed very robotic and was a little too much for me. The plot was intricate and was filled with many twists and turns that I didn’t expect, it all came together very well.

Overall, This Mortal Coil is a very well-crafted story with complex characterisation and some shocking happenings. Suvada’s writing is extremely readable and smooth; I enjoyed every moment of it and I look forward to reading more books by this author. A fabulous debut!

The Hidden Legacy series has fast become one of my very favourites! Wildfire, is the third book in the series and follows on where White Hot left off and is probably the best book that I have read so far this year!

In White Hot Nevada learned that her Grandmother, Victoria Tremaine is the Prime of her house and will do anything to capture Nevada and her sisters to keep House Tremaine intact; Nevada’s only options are to join with her crazy grandmother or to start her own house so in Wildfire we see the beginning of House Baylor emerge.

We also have Mad Rogan’s ex Rynda Sherwood recruiting Nevada and the Baylor agency to locate her missing husband Brian, this aspect was exciting and I was eager to see what was to come of the Sherwood’s because this woman drove me absolutely crazy and how Nevada held her cool was beyond me!

There is also a secret conspiracy with certain houses trying to destabilize Houston so a powerful leader name Caesar can rule. There was so much going on but thankfully the pacing flowed well and nothing was overlooked or rushed, everything was done with purpose and blended the storyline beautifully.

The characters are nothing short of amazing (animals Zeus and Teddy included), there has been so much character growth and each of them have played a pivotal role in the overall story. The relationship between them all is amazing! I love them all and how they interact; seeing Nevada become a well-respected part of Rogan’s powerful team has been wonderful to watch. They have all faced challenges but they have come out stronger from it.

The romance between Nevada and Connor is one of my favourites; I absolutely adore their banter, their at times crazy interactions; the way he not only protects her but also supports her leaves me swooning; he doesn’t always agree with her choices but he backs up her decisions and vice versa. They complement each other well, both in their strengths and their weaknesses,

I cannot fault the writing style, the fast-paced plot or amazing world-building; it is all perfect.

Overall, Wildfire is a highly satisfying, thrilling and intense page-turner; full of kick-butt characters and fantastic dialogue as well as an amazingly strong heroine and a phenomenal alpha male, I can’t recommend this book and series highly enough.

I think Midnight Hour by C.C. Hunter might be my second 5 star rating all year! I am so sad to see the Shadow Falls: After Dark series come to an end, it’s been one of my favorite YA Paranormal series.

Midnight Hour is our favorite kind-hearted, lovable and at times ditzy witch Miranda Kane’s book, she has to go through many struggles in this but along with the other characters we have met throughout the series and their unwavering support she got through it all.

Miranda is having to contend with a few mysteries – an explosion that almost killed her and her sister Tabatha, a strange creature and ghost following her around, an odd tattoo that appears and disappears at will, new abilities, her conflicted feelings about Shawn and Perry and of course passing her exams so that she can go to college with her best friends Kylie and Della. A lot was fit into this book and I loved every moment of it.

There was so much happening which kept the pace flowing at a fast pace, I was excited to find out what was going to happen and I wasn’t disappointed, there was action aplenty.

The romance was done very well; I have always loved Miranda and Perry together so when she was ‘sort of’ with Shawn, despite him being great I wasn’t completely happy so I was eager to see how everything would play out; I won’t reveal who she chose to avoid spoilers but it was all done very well.

The secondary characters are all fabulous! I love the friendship that Miranda shares with Kylie and Della and the respect she shows for Burnett and Holiday. All of the characters play a pivotal role in the overall series.

I adore C.C. Hunter’s writing style, the dialogue, humour and the banter always keeps me amused. The gripping story-line kept me flipping the pages, of course we have the bad guys but they are all written to perfection and as an added bonus we get a few POV’s from Perry and also Shawn. Everything came together well and I was extremely satisfied by the conclusion.

I am saddened this series has come to an end but I am excited for what C.C. Hunter comes up with next! I’m sure it will be just as amazing.

Overall, I love the mix of paranormals we get in this series, vampires, witches, shape-shifters, fae etc. The mystery element is always done well and the characters are wonderful! I highly recommend this series to all YA paranomal fans.

Bright Blaze of Magic is the final instalment in the Black Blade trilogy and was a riveting, engrossing addition to what has been a wonderful series.

These books need to be read in order, the events that take place and the build-up are all pivotal in getting to this point. In this instalment we see Claudia Sinclair, the head of the family working with her son Devon, the family bruiser, Felix and Lila Merriweather as well as Draconi’s daughter Deah to attempt to foil Victor’s plan in taking over Cloudburst Falls and eliminating all families in order to lead. A lot has happened to get to this point and the action and thrills kept it all extremely entertaining.

Lila continues to be a fantastic heroine, she doesn’t sit on the sidelines, she is in on all the plotting, planning and the action; she is resourceful, skilful yet still sweet and has fit into the Sinclair family beautifully, I admired her character. Devon was the sweetest; I loved his interactions with Lila and his loyalty to his whole family. All of the secondary characters played an important role in this book; I didn’t fully trust Deah in the last instalment so I was pleasantly surprised by how everything worked out with her.

The romance in this series has been drama free and is slow to build, it isn’t at the forefront of the story but it is sweet and enjoyable.

We are finally given the much needed answers about Lila’s mother and Victor’s purpose. The magical world Estep has created is complex and filled with a variety of unusual paranormal creatures which I have really appreciated and her writing continues to hold me captivated, she surprises me with enthralling plot twists and developments, just as I think the families could take a breather something would always pop up. The battle scenes were brutal and filled with surprises and I liked the good vs evil elements.

Bright Blaze of Magic is a thrilling, action-packed and satisfying conclusion to the Black Blades trilogy.
