Review: 4 out of 5 stars

One More Summer was kindly provided to me by Netgalley for Carina Press.

Grace Elliot has had a difficult life thanks to her uncaring father who constantly belittled and abused her, she does everything for everyone else and it isn’t until her father passes away that she decides what she wants to do with her life and the large house left to her in Peacock, Tennessee.

Well known Author and Grace’s brother’s best friend Dillon Campbell stood Grace up at her senior prom and she has never truly forgiven him but she agrees to let him rent her guest house over the summer to work on his latest novel.

I loved the banter between Grace and Dillon, he respected her but also trod extremely gently with her, he seemed to know what she wanted and when she needed it and the care and affection was certainly reciprocated. I thought they truly belonged with one another and was pleased with how their relationship progressed.

I think the secondary characters truly make this book, we have Grace’s siblings Faith and Steven, tenants Jonah & Maxie and of course Grace’s wonderful best friend Promise Delaney, her fight was one of the hardest I have read about. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between them all and love how they each pulled together when support was needed whether it was for health, love or when secrets revealed.

There is a lot of sadness in this book, I went in thinking it would be a typical contemporary romance with the typical HEA but it wasn’t the case, there were many hardships each of the characters had to face in this novel and it was downright heartbreaking and emotional but also very real, it tugged at the heartstrings from the first page to the last.

Liz Flaherty has written an incredibly touching and thought provoking story with believable characters, they were well thought out and each likeable – I loved the journey we took with each of them despite what they were having to endure.

I will definitely read more books written by this wonderful author.
