What do you think? New Across the Universe (Beth Revis) covers

So, the Across the Universe trilogy (Beth Revis) new covers have recently been released.

Old covers:

Across the Universe A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)

New covers:

What do you think? And for everyone who has books 1 & 2 already, how do you feel about the final book having a different cover to the others?

I actually prefer the old covers, and it’s a pet peeve of mine when there is no continuity. For new fans, I think the re-released covers look great!

How do you feel about the re-release of covers before a series has finished?

  1. I like the new covers more, I'm not normally a fan of covers with models, but it's always made me kind of uncomfortable when the third book doesn't match the first two.
I'm not certain why there's a re-release though. I'm curious as to what happened to warrant the change.

  2. I like the old covers better. I am really sad to see there won't be a matching cover for that design. :(

  3. I hate when they rerelease the covers before the series is complete (the Shade trilogy by Jeri Smith-Ready is my main example). That is one of the reasons I usually try to wait until a series is complete before buying the books-to avoid mismatching covers on my shelf! A huge pet peeve!

  4. I don't like the new ones :( They're just not that exciting to me. Whereas I ADORE gorgeous space scenes and I think the old ones are just awesome. So I'm really upset that my set will be all mismatched. :(

  5. I like the originals best though the new ones are cool and at least they all match!

  6. Well, neither of those are the Across the Universe covers I have anyway ;P At least Million Suns still matched the glittery pink/purple cover or the one you showed above. The new ones won't match at all...

  7. I kind of like them, but I don't like that they do a redesign mid-series so people have to buy them all again. It feels like a Marketing thing.

  8. I hate it when they do this. I like my books to look like a proper set and match, so when they re-release with different covers, it messes everything up.

I also don't like this new design. It just doesn't fit right with the stories in my opinion. no no no!

  9. I actually really like them though it will suck having to buy a whole new set. There was another AtU hardcover when it was first released so this is actually the third cover change. But yeah it irritates the heck out of me when they re-do covers mid series. I wish they'd just wait until all the books are out then re-do the covers.

  10. I really liked the old ones. These are ok. I just wish they'd not change covers when 2 books are already out. :(

  11. Well, the original hardcover version of the Across the Universe cover was one of my favorite covers EVER. So obviously, I prefer that along with the A Million Suns cover. I can see the appeal of the new ones, though. In fact, I even like them quite a lot when I don't compare them to the earlier ones.

I would keep the original designs for the hardbacks (and design a matching one for #3) and use the new designs for the paperbacks. That way they both get used, all sets are complete, and the random ATU paperback design is discarded because, although I like it, it doesn't really match either of the sets.
